how to apply tca peel 40% on skin?

⚠️ Warning: TCA 40% is a High-Strength Peel!

A 40% TCA peel is VERY strong and can cause serious burns, scarring, or hyperpigmentation if not used properly. This concentration is not recommended for at-home use and should only be applied by a professional.

If you are not experienced with TCA peels, it is much safer to start with 10-20% TCA before attempting 40%. If you still want to proceed, follow these steps very carefully.

How to Apply TCA 40% Peel Safely

1️⃣ Pre-Peel Preparation

Perform a Patch Test 48 hours before full application.
Stop Using Retinol, Acids, & Exfoliants at least 7 days before the peel.
Do Not Apply on Sensitive Areas (eyes, lips, nostrils, broken skin).
Hydrate & Moisturize your skin well in the days leading up to the peel.
Use Gloves to prevent chemical burns on your hands.

2️⃣ Application Process

Step 1: Cleanse the Skin

  • Wash your face with a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser and pat dry completely.

  • Apply petroleum jelly around sensitive areas (nostrils, lips, under-eyes) for protection.

Step 2: Apply the TCA 40% Peel

  • Use a fan brush or cotton pad to apply a thin, even layer.

  • Do NOT leave on for more than 30-60 seconds—this is a very strong peel!

  • You may experience “frosting” (skin turning white)—this is normal with high-strength TCA.

Step 3: Neutralization & Rinsing

  • TCA is self-neutralizing, meaning it does not need a neutralizing solution.

  • After 30-60 seconds, rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove excess acid.

  • Pat the skin dry—do not rub!

3️⃣ Aftercare & Recovery

🔹 Moisturize with a gentle, hydrating cream (like aloe vera, ceramides, or hyaluronic acid).
🔹 No Picking or Scrubbing—peeling will start within 3-7 days and must happen naturally.
🔹 Sun Protection is a MUST—use SPF 50+ daily for at least 4 weeks to prevent dark spots.
🔹 Avoid Harsh Products (Retinol, Exfoliants, Vitamin C) for at least 2 weeks.

How Often Can You Use It?

  • Every 6-8 weeks, but only if your skin has fully healed.

  • If you experience severe burning, blisters, or excessive redness, seek medical help immediately.
