how to use lactic acid 80% on skin?

⚠️ Warning: Lactic Acid 80% is Extremely Strong!

Lactic acid 80% is a high-strength chemical peel that can cause burns, irritation, and hyperpigmentation if not used correctly. This concentration is typically for professional use only and not recommended for beginners.

If you are new to chemical peels, consider starting with 10-30% lactic acid before attempting 80%. If you still want to proceed, follow these steps carefully.

How to Safely Use Lactic Acid 80% on Skin

1️⃣ Pre-Peel Preparation

Patch Test: Apply a small amount behind your ear or jawline 48 hours before full application.
Stop Retinol, Exfoliants, & Vitamin C at least 5-7 days before to avoid irritation.
Avoid Sun Exposure & Waxing for at least a week before the peel.
Hydrate Your Skin: Use a gentle moisturizer before and after the peel.

2️⃣ Application Process

Step 1: Cleanse the Skin

  • Wash your face with a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser and pat dry completely.

  • Apply petroleum jelly to sensitive areas (corners of nose, lips, under-eyes) for protection.

Step 2: Apply Lactic Acid 80%

  • Use a fan brush or cotton pad to apply a very thin, even layer.

  • DO NOT leave on for more than 15-60 seconds (for first-time users).

  • Expect mild tingling or stinging—if burning occurs, neutralize immediately.

Step 3: Neutralization & Rinsing

  • Lactic acid needs to be neutralized to stop its action.

  • Mix 1 cup cold water + 1 tbsp baking soda to make a neutralizing solution.

  • Apply the solution using a cotton pad and rinse thoroughly with cold water.

3️⃣ Aftercare & Recovery

🔹 Moisturize: Use a soothing moisturizer (like aloe vera, ceramides, or hyaluronic acid).
🔹 No Scrubbing or Peeling: Skin may peel over 3-5 days—let it happen naturally.
🔹 Sun Protection is Essential: Use SPF 30+ daily to prevent hyperpigmentation.
🔹 Avoid Harsh Skincare (Retinol, Exfoliants, Vitamin C) for at least 7 days.

4️⃣ How Often Can You Use It?

  • Every 4-6 weeks, depending on skin tolerance.

  • If irritation occurs, reduce frequency or use a lower concentration.
